EC Leadership Committees & Committee Assignments

2025 - 2026 Committee Assignments

All HLSA Leadership Committees will have the following structure: 

  • Chair (or additional Co-Chair(s)) whom the HLSA President will tap to serve in that role 
  • Members of the Committee who will contribute to the mission and activities of the committee 

 

Specific Leadership Committees as defined by the HLSA Constitution 

HLSA Constitution, Section 7.1 & 7.2 – Committees: 
The Executive Committee shall have the power to create and mandate committees at any time and for any purpose. Similarly, the Executive Committee shall have the power to dissolve such committees at any time. Only four committees shall be specifically established under this constitution: the Executive Committee (as defined in Article IV), the Nominating Committee (as defined in Article V, Section 5.2(a)), the Senior Advisory Council (“Senior Advisory Council”), and the International Section (“International Section”). 

Definitions of Leadership Committees

Awards Committee 

The HLSA Awards Committee consists of up to nine individuals appointed by the President, with the approval of the Executive Committee of the HLSA. The selection of Award recipient is subject to the approval of the Executive Committee and the Dean of the HLS and to such University approvals, if any, as may be necessary. HLSA Awards are presented at select HLS and HLSA meetings and events, and up to four HLSA Awards can be awarded annually. 

 

Communications Committee

Is responsible for advising thoughtful messaging content and strategies to promote the HLSA, HLSA Club/SIG organizations, and HLS initiatives. All Executive Committee members are encouraged to promote HLS, HLSA and Club/SIG activities on personal social media and professional platforms. 

 

Club/SIG Engagement Committee

Is responsible for engaging with domestic Clubs/SIGs to ensure their success and longevity, reviewing inactive Clubs/SIGs and conducting outreach to determine viability, assessing new domestic Club/SIG requests, and stewarding them through the HLSA Club/SIG Formation Process. 

 

International Section

HLSA Constitution, Section 7.2 B – International Section: 
Is to “advise the Executive Committee on, and help implement, the Association’s global strategy of better integration of the international alumni of the Harvard Law School with the Association in an increasingly global world” and promote “fellowship among all alumni around the world by providing a forum for global engagement among the alumni with the Association”.  

The International Section’s charge is to liaise with international Clubs, review new international Club requests, and assist in cultivating successful overseas programming on behalf of HLSA. 

 

Nominating Committee

HLSA Constitution, Section 5.2 A – Nominating Committee: 
Is responsible for identifying and discussing active alumni to join the HLSA Executive Committee. This Committee determines the slate of new Executive Committee members and Officers voted on by the HLSA Council. While only some Executive Committee members serve on the Nominating Committee, all Executive Committee members are welcome to nominate alumni for consideration.

 

Senior Advisory Council 

HLSA Constitution, Section 7.2 A – Senior Advisory Council: 
The purpose of the Senior Advisory Council shall be to provide a forum through which those who have provided leadership and long service to the Association can continue to serve, provide input to the Association, and carry out such other duties as may be requested by the Executive Committee. Members of the Senior Advisory Council may attend meetings of the Executive Committee and Council in a non-voting capacity.
