Mentorship Programs

Mentorship programs foster community and relationships where all parties benefit from the exchange of knowledge and experience. HLSA Clubs/SIGs can host mentorship programs or events to engage audiences that intersect across various legal professions, interests, or social categories.

Alumni to Alumni Mentorship Programs

HLSA Clubs/SIGs are welcome to host mentorship programs that provide an opportunity to build alumni connections and support lasting relationships.

Define the audience and structure of Mentorship Program(s):

  • Consider what audiences of your Club/SIG community you wish to engage with and how they may intersect through a mentorship program. Should you wish to learn more about your Club/SIG audience to assist in determining how you wish to segment your potential participants, please contact hlsa@law.harvard.edu, with a request for a Club/SIG Alumni Data List.

  • Mentorship connections can come in different forms – including one-to-one pairings or small groups where participants share common goals or interests.

Technology to assist in hosting Mentorship Program(s):

  • AlumniMagnet

    • The Newsletter function in AlumniMagnet has the capacity to send communications to segmented email recipient audiences.

      • For example, if a Club mentorship program wishes to define mentors as individuals residing in a Club region from the Classes of 1975 to 1999, and mentees as individuals residing in a Club region from the Classes of 2000 to 2024 – two email recipient lists can be created for a Club/SIG to send targeted messaging to the respective audiences.

      • Should you wish for a custom segmented email list(s) to be built for your mentorship program, please contact hlsa@law.harvard.edu. Please place your custom segmented email list request 10 business days in advance of the email send date.

  • Your Club/SIG Google Suite

    • Google Forms is a user-friendly survey administrative software that can be used to collect registrations for a mentorship program.

    • Consider building separate Google Forms for the mentors and mentees (or your segmented audiences to match) to assist in the registration and matching process.

    • All data collected in Google Forms can be exported to Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, which can be used to match individuals.

    • If your Club/SIG is unfamiliar with your complimentary Club/SIG Google Suite, please contact hlsa@law.harvard.edu.
